Google and Nvidia Eye Intel Foundry for Chips

Google and Nvidia are reportedly considering Intel Foundry for chip production as TSMC struggles to meet long-term industry demand.

Google is reportedly weighing a massive order of 6 million TPU units for data centers in 2027 and 2028. While compute dies for these TPUs are initially expected from TSMC's N3 lines, Intel could provide packaging services using EMIB-T technology at its high-capacity Malaysia complex, set to open in 2026. A backup plan suggests Intel may manufacture some compute dies starting in 2028. To support such demand, Intel is scaling its 18A capacity in Arizona by 100 percent and its 3 capacity in Ireland by 80 percent by the end of 2028. This expansion comes as TSMC admits it cannot meet demand for years. Intel's own roadmap includes Diamond Rapids on 18A-P in 2027, while Clearwater Forest is projected to utilize one third of total 18A capacity. Nvidia is also reportedly exploring Intel Foundry production.
