Redditor Turns Nubia Z70 Ultra Into Desktop PC

A custom Snapdragon 8 Elite build runs Linux and The Witcher 3 at 1080p using a modified ZTE Nubia Z70 Ultra with active cooling.

Redditor ntsow has successfully modified a ZTE Nubia Z70 Ultra smartphone into a functional desktop PC. The custom build features the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, 24GB of RAM, two CPU coolers, a power bank, and a custom acrylic case for improved performance.

The modified device runs native Termux and the XFCE4 version of Linux, supporting an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse. During testing, the handset ran The Witcher 3 at 1080p on Ultra settings, maintaining a framerate between 20FPS and 30FPS throughout.

This project highlights the power of the Snapdragon 8 Elite's octa-core 4.32GHz configuration. While the Adreno GPU reached 99 percent utilization, the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Stress Test confirms the hardware's ability to handle demanding desktop workloads.
