A Redditor named Magoth04 reported the irreparable failure of a three-month-old Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor paired with an MSI PRO X870-P WIFI motherboard. The system reportedly shut down during gaming and entered a boot loop before both components failed.
The user noted that the CPU and motherboard showed visible burn marks, with the processor appearing slightly swollen. Despite using a 360mm AIO and keeping settings stock aside from AMD EXPO, the hardware was rendered unusable and an RMA was initiated.
This incident follows a 2023 AGESA update designed to cap voltages at 1.30V to prevent such burnouts. With recent reports of similar swelling in Ryzen 9800X3D chips, these hardware failures raise concerns regarding ongoing AM5 platform stability issues.
