Samsung, SK Hynix to Invest $1.3T in South Korea
Samsung and SK Hynix plan a $1.3 trillion investment over 10 years to expand semiconductor and component production across South Korea.
Samsung and SK Hynix are committing approximately $1.3 trillion (2,000 trillion Won) to South Korea's semiconductor sector over the next decade, with each firm contributing $650 billion. SK Hynix will build four to five factories in Gwangju and packaging plants in southern Chungcheong, following its $400 billion Yongin cluster project. Samsung plans four to five factories in Gwangju and the Honam region, alongside expanded NAND production in northern Chungcheong. Samsung Electro-Mechanics will also boost ceramic capacitor and substrate capacities in Yeongnam and Busan. The initiative follows a post on X by President Lee Jae Myung regarding Honam, with government representatives scheduled to meet local authorities and companies during the week of June 29, 2026.
