Apple Testing M5 Ultra Mac Studio With 768GB RAM

Apple is reportedly testing a new Mac Studio featuring the M5 Ultra chip, codenamed J775, with support for up to 768 GB of RAM.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is internally testing a next-generation Mac Studio powered by the M5 Ultra chip, codenamed J775. This high-end SoC is expected to feature 36 CPU cores and 80 GPU cores, utilizing the M5 GPU architecture. While Apple’s Ultra chips typically combine two Max chips—with the M5 Max offering 18 CPU cores and 40 GPU cores—the M5 Ultra development has faced delays due to cost and availability challenges. A significant upgrade includes support for up to 768 GB of RAM, a massive increase from the current 96 GB limit found in configurations costing approximately 6,299 Euro. For comparison, the M3 Ultra contains 32 CPU cores and 80 GPU cores. Apple currently offers the Mac Studio with M3 Ultra and M4 Max chips as the M5 Ultra remains in development.
