Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro to Get AI Frame Fusion
Qualcomm's 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro will reportedly feature exclusive AI Frame Fusion and LPDDR6 support via new Matrix ALU blocks.
The rumored Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, a 2nm SoC, will feature exclusive support for LPDDR6 RAM and AI Frame Fusion technology. Unlike the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, the Pro version’s Adreno 850 GPU shader processor contains two dedicated Matrix ALU blocks designed to accelerate graphics memory. These blocks pair with the GPU's GMEM to enhance efficiency. AI Frame Fusion includes a super-resolution mode upscaling 1080p to 1440p by combining motion vectors, a depth buffer, a low-resolution color buffer, and previous frames. It also enables injecting AI-generated frames between existing ones. While this chip targets high-end performance, other recent devices include the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme-powered ROG Xbox Ally X and the REDMAGIC Astra 2 tablet, which utilizes the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
