Jensen Huang Joins X to Back Open-Source AI
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang joins X to promote a policy letter signed by 25 firms urging Washington to protect open-weight AI development.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang used his first post on X on July 24, 2026, to promote a three-page policy letter titled Open Weights and American AI Leadership. Co-signed by 25 organizations including Meta, Microsoft, IBM, Dell, and Hugging Face, the letter urges Washington to avoid premature restrictions on downloadable AI models. The coalition, which excludes OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, calls for expanded compute access and public investment in shared datasets. Huang noted that one in four tokens generated in 2026 comes from open models, even as Nvidia recently released its 550-billion-parameter Nemotron 3 Ultra. While Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned of IP theft in Chinese models, Huang argued American firms should be allowed to use them. The letter also requests that policymakers not treat model distillation as misappropriation to support the broader AI ecosystem.
