Tesla AI5 Chip Tapes Out for 2nm Samsung Production

Tesla’s AI5 chip has completed tape-out for Samsung’s 2nm process, with parallel production at TSMC and Samsung slated to begin in 2027.

Tesla has reached a milestone with its AI5 chip, completing the tape-out process for Samsung factories. Scheduled for 2-nanometer production in 2027, the chip will be manufactured in parallel by both Samsung and TSMC. While TSMC will handle production in Taiwan, Samsung’s new Taylor, Texas facility is expected to be production-ready by 2027 after being fully equipped in 2026. Elon Musk showcased an AI5 sample in April 2026, manufactured in Korea during the 13th week of that year. A Samsung employee briefly confirmed the tape-out on LinkedIn before deleting the post. Musk previously noted that while chips from different manufacturers may have slight hardware variations, they will run identical software. Separately, AMD is launching its Zen-6 Venice server processor with up to 256 cores, which completed its TSMC tape-out over a year before July 2026.
