Intel to Invest 5 Billion Euros in Ireland Fab

Intel is investing 5 billion euros to expand its Leixlip, Ireland site, boosting Intel 3 capacity and upgrading Fab 34 for 2026-2027.

Intel will invest 5 billion euros during 2026 and 2027 to expand its Leixlip, Ireland site, focusing on the recently repurchased Fab 34. As Europe's only facility currently using EUV lithography, the site will receive new machinery, tools, and room renovations to boost capacity for the Intel 3 manufacturing process. This process is critical for Xeon 6 CPU dies and base dies used in Clearwater Forest and next-generation Xeon processors. The investment includes upgrading the wafer transport system to allow boxes to travel across all modules. While the facility could support Intel 18A and 18A-P processes for products like Diamond Rapids with additional tools, Intel stated it has no plans for further European factories after canceling its 2025 projects in Germany and Poland.
