Micron Taiwan Faces Potential Labor Strike Threat

Union members demand profit-sharing parity with rivals as mediation looms to avoid disruptions to global high-bandwidth memory output.

Micron Taiwan is facing a potential labor strike as 80% of surveyed union members expressed support for industrial action. The labor union is demanding a transition from the current bonus system to a profit-sharing scheme similar to those of major rivals.

Formal mediation between Micron and the union must occur by mid-September 2026 before a strike vote can proceed under Taiwan law. Competitors Samsung and SK Hynix currently distribute 10.5% and 10% of their profits as employee bonuses, respectively.

With 60% of global capacity and most high-bandwidth memory output located in Taiwan, a strike could disrupt operations. Micron recently reported $41.46 billion in revenue and $28.24 billion in net income, with cloud memory driving over 33% of sales.
