MSI Launches Katana 15 HX with DDR4 and DDR5 SKUs

The new MSI Katana 15 HX C14 features Intel Core i9-14900HX processors and offers separate memory configurations for DDR4 and DDR5 RAM.

MSI has officially launched the Katana 15 HX C14 laptop, featuring the high-performance Intel Core i9-14900HX platform and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. A notable design choice is the availability of both DDR5 and DDR4-3200 memory configurations.

The Core i9-14900HX supports both standards, but MSI utilizes separate SKUs with distinct electrical designs. Each version includes two SO-DIMM slots supporting up to 96GB of capacity. However, the DDR4 and DDR5 modules are not interchangeable on the board.

This strategy allows MSI to offer a lower-cost SKU while extending the commercial life of DDR4 into 2026. While the DDR4-3200 model reduces memory bandwidth compared to the DDR5 variant, it provides a budget-friendly entry point for this new hardware series.
