Perplexity Launches Portable Computer AI Solution

Perplexity releases a free local agentic AI system for Pro and Enterprise users requiring NVIDIA GPUs to manage complex local tasks.

Perplexity has launched Portable Computer, an out-of-the-box solution for agentic AI workloads. Available as a free add-on for Pro, Max, and Enterprise subscribers, the system includes software for models, a server, and a harness to manage complex local tasks.

The initial release runs on Ubuntu or DGX OS, requiring NVIDIA GPUs with 24GB VRAM like the RTX 3090, 4090, or 5090. It supports Alibaba's Qwen3.8 27B model and plans to add Nemotron 3.5 Lightning. Windows support is currently scheduled for September 2026.

Portable Computer uses app connectors for Gmail, Slack, and GitHub to execute shell commands and web searches. Local tasks do not consume AI credits, though the system can access cloud-hosted frontier models for complex steps with the user's permission.
