Samsung unveiled the P9 and P7 portable SSDs at Gamescom 2026, featuring high-speed USB4 connectivity. The flagship P9 model delivers sequential read speeds of 4,000 MB/s and write speeds of 3,800 MB/s, supporting direct 12K video recording for professionals.
Both drives arrive in 1 TB, 2 TB, 4 TB, and 8 TB capacities. The P7 focuses on durability with shock resilience and a six-foot drop rating. The 8 TB P9 is the first USB4 portable SSD to hit 4,000 MB/s at that size, carrying a premium price tag of $2,700.
Scheduled for global release on August 31, 2026, these SSDs launch amid a global shortage of NAND and DRAM chips. Samsung confirmed that price increases for these new products are unavoidable due to current supply constraints affecting the tech industry.
