Apple unveiled the M5 Ultra SoC and a refreshed Mac Studio on August 25, 2026. Built with a quad-die architecture using the UltraFusion process to combine two M5 Max dies, the chip features a 36-core CPU, an 80-core GPU, and a 32-core Neural Engine for users.
The M5 Ultra offers 4.4TB/s interconnect bandwidth and supports 512GB of unified memory at 1.2TB/s. It delivers 30% higher multi-threaded performance and 40% faster graphics than the M3 Ultra, featuring third-gen ray tracing and second-gen Dynamic Caching.
The new Mac Studio adds Thunderbolt 5, PCIe Gen 6 storage, and an N1 chip for Wi-Fi 7. Pre-orders are open now, with the M5 Ultra model starting at $5,499, or $5,099 for students. The M5 Max variant is also available starting at $2,499 for professional use.
