An alleged image shared by @hsuchingpo reveals Apple’s Private Cloud Compute server featuring multiple M5-powered units in a single enclosure. The hardware utilizes custom PCBs for each SoC, separated by heatsinks, with unified memory and NAND flash.
The M5 chip, also used in the iPad Pro, features a 16-core Neural Engine and 153.6GB/s memory bandwidth. While Geekbench 6 shows it trailing the M1 Ultra in multi-core tasks, it outperforms the workstation-class chip in single-threaded performance tests.
Apple previously tested M4 Ultra chips for AI operations, but the M5 offers superior power efficiency. While standard M5 units are pictured, reports suggest Apple may deploy M5 Pro and M5 Max variants to leverage higher power limits for cloud AI tasks.
