Microsoft officially introduced Project Helix at the March 2026 Game Developers Conference. Initially described as a next-generation console, Xbox head Asha Sharma confirmed to BBC News that the project is actually a family of high-performance devices.
The hardware features a custom System-on-a-Chip developed with AMD, designed to run both Xbox and PC games. It aims to push performance limits with increased ray tracing and coordination with future versions of DirectX and FSR for advanced graphical output.
This follows Microsoft's handheld collaborations with Asus on the ROG Xbox Ally. While alpha systems will ship to developers in 2027, a market launch date is not yet set for the successor to the current Xbox Series X and Series S console generation.
