Valve has updated SteamOS to version 3.9, enabling direct installation on systems featuring Intel Arc B580 graphics cards. Previously, users required an AMD GPU to initiate the setup process, as the OS was heavily optimized for Steam Deck and AMD hardware.
The YouTube channel ETA Prime demonstrated the new compatibility using an Intel Core Ultra 5 250K Plus and a B580 GPU. Testing showed Cyberpunk 2077 hitting 70 FPS at 1440p with XeSS, while Forza Horizon 6, Fallout 4, and Elden Ring reached playable rates.
Despite these gains, Linux limitations persist as XMX cores remain unutilized, forcing XeSS upsampling to run via shader fallback. Additionally, XeSS Frame Generation and Multi-Frame Generation are currently unavailable for Intel users on the platform.
