Microsoft is developing new Windows 11 optimizations to improve system efficiency for devices with 8GB of RAM. Recent leaks regarding Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 14-inch and 15-inch notebooks, powered by AMD Ryzen AI, show 8GB models labeled as non-Copilot units.
Current Copilot+ features require at least 16GB of RAM to function. This is critical as the Windows 11 Weather app can use 1.6GB of RAM, and the Dell XPS 13 often consumes 70 percent of its 8GB memory before any user-launched programs are even opened.
The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim series utilizes soldered LPDDR5X memory, which is unavailable in the SODIMM form factor. While AI tools like ChatGPT and Google Gemini rely on the cloud, these local OS optimizations aim to sustain performance on limited hardware.
