A Japanese repair shop named 'AI to GPU Expert' is now offering GDDR6 VRAM upgrades for the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. Located in Saitama Prefecture, the shop uses its Mercari platform store to provide a service that doubles the card's memory from 11GB to 22GB.
The upgrade costs 45,000 Yen, or roughly $282, and utilizes Samsung 2GB GDDR6 modules. The shop recently received 200 of these modules, enough to convert 36 cards. A pre-modded MSI Venus 2X RTX 2080 Ti with 22GB was also listed for approximately $428.
While the VRAM capacity on the TU102 silicon increases, the memory bandwidth remains unchanged at 616 GB/s. This modification targets users needing more buffer for AI workloads, providing a cost-effective alternative to modern high-capacity workstations.
