New 12VHPWR Guard Tool Protects ASUS ROG GPUs

A new free monitoring tool for ASUS ROG Astral graphics cards prevents hardware damage by triggering shutdowns if power pins exceed limits.

A new free monitoring tool called 12VHPWR Guard has been released for ASUS ROG Astral graphics cards, including the RTX 5090 and 5080 series. Developed by a GeForce RTX 5090 owner, the software monitors current across all six 12V power pins twice per second.

The application reads the ITE IT8915FN chip via NVIDIA’s NVAPI and the I2C bus, with HWiNFO support as a fallback. It triggers an automatic PC shutdown if any pin exceeds a set limit, such as the default 9.5A for 15 seconds, to prevent potential hardware damage.

Compatible with Windows 10 and 11, the tool requires Python 3.10 and uses Task Scheduler as a watchdog. Users can customize thresholds via a tray app, providing a safety layer beyond the 9.2A warning system found in ASUS’s own GPU Tweak III software utility.
