Elon Musk has denied reports from The Wall Street Journal claiming SpaceX showcased a consumer AI device to select investors and stakeholders ahead of its IPO. The reported device was described as slimmer than an iPhone, utilizing a Snapdragon System on a Chip, a proprietary operating system, and technology from xAI. Meanwhile, OpenAI is actively developing its own consumer hardware, including AI-powered earbuds codenamed Sweetpea, potentially branded as Dime, and a pen-shaped device codenamed Gumdrop. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported in April 2026 that OpenAI is shifting focus toward an AI-powered smartphone. This planned smartphone is expected to feature a customized MediaTek Dimensity 9600 chip, with Luxshare likely serving as the primary assembler for the device.
