Rare AMD Navi 31 GPU Engineering Sample Surfaces

TikToker Shav Tech discovers a unique Navi 31 engineering sample featuring a red PCB, 16GB GDDR6 VRAM, and specialized debugging headers.

TikToker Shav Tech recently acquired a rare GPU engineering sample from the secondhand market, revealing a unique Navi 31 prototype. The card features a distinct red PCB without a backplate and includes specialized hardware for testing, such as dip switches, a blue connector for I2C, PMBus, and JTAG headers, and a shrouded black connector for a logic analyzer. Despite having 12 memory modules, the card utilizes a 256-bit bus width and 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Software identifies the unit as an RX 7900 XTX with 160 ROPs and 320 TMUs, though it runs a custom VBIOS and refused to flash an RX 7900 GRE VBIOS. This discovery follows the 2023 global release of the RX 7900 GRE, highlighting the differences between production models and this early development hardware.
