Zluda v6 Debuts as Project Loses Funding

Developer Andrez Janik releases Zluda v6 with PhysX support as the open-source CUDA emulator project loses its commercial backing.

Zluda version 6 has been released, introducing pre-alpha 32-bit PhysX support, improved Windows compatibility, and a refreshed zluda.exe loader alongside PyTorch-driven fixes. Despite these technical updates, developer Andrez Janik confirmed the open-source CUDA emulator for AMD GPUs has lost its commercial funding. Originally started in 2020 for Intel hardware, the project received AMD backing in 2022 before funding was cut in 2024. Following a forced code rebuild by AMD in August 2024, Janik secured an undisclosed sponsor later that year, but that support has now ended. Consequently, Zluda has transitioned into a weekend project. The tool remains a key effort to run CUDA applications on non-NVIDIA hardware, though its future development pace depends on Janik's limited availability.
