First Steam Machine Red Line of Death Reported

The first Steam Machine Red Line of Death has been reported on Reddit, signaling a GPU failure that leaves the hardware unable to boot.

A user on the Steam Machine Reddit community has shared the first reported instance of a Red Line of Death (RLOD) affecting the hardware. According to the post, which included a photo of the failure, the system was operational for approximately 20 minutes before the red line appeared and the unit became unable to boot. Steam's official support documentation clarifies that the RLOD displays different patterns based on the specific fault; a line extending from the middle to the right side specifically indicates a GPU failure. Because the Steam Machine features a soldered GPU, such hardware failures are significant. While this hardware issue surfaces, SteamOS is expected to expand its support across multiple PC platforms in the near future.
