Sony Details PlayStation 6 and Cloud Strategy

Sony confirms PlayStation 6 development, targeting a shift beyond the living room with dedicated cloud hardware and backward compatibility.

During a recent investor Q&A first reported by The Verge, Sony confirmed it is currently working on the PlayStation 6 while outlining a broader strategy to shift gaming beyond the living room. The company aims to provide a seamless experience that can be enjoyed naturally in various environments, focusing on dedicated cloud-streaming hardware like the PlayStation Portal rather than expanding services to smartphones or PCs. Sony noted that cloud-streaming devices are significantly cheaper to produce than native gaming systems because they require minimal memory. Regarding the next-generation console, Sony stated the PlayStation 6 will not be sold at a loss. The upcoming system is expected to support PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 titles as the company continues moving away from physical discs in favor of a digital-first approach to its gaming ecosystem.
