Acer and Asus Resume German Sales After Nokia Deal

Acer and Asus are resuming sales in Germany this June after settling a four-month patent dispute with Nokia over H.265 codec technology.

Acer and Asus are permitted to resume selling and advertising products in Germany as of June 2026, ending a sales ban that began in February. The Regional Court of Munich initially granted Nokia's application for an immediate ban in late January 2026, citing infringement of patent EP 2 661 892 related to the H.265 codec. The dispute led to significant disruptions, including the blocking of Asus support pages and motherboard information for German IP addresses. Following an arbitration agreement between Asus and Nokia, ongoing legal proceedings are being suspended or withdrawn. Acer is also coordinating with Nokia to resume marketing activities for all products. This resolution concludes over four months of restricted market access for both hardware manufacturers in the German region.
