AMD and HandBrake Boost Threadripper Performance

HandBrake 1.11.0 improves core scaling for AMD Ryzen Threadripper CPUs, fixing performance drops of up to 60 percent in video transcoding.

Following a 2025 ComputerBase test showing underutilized cores, AMD collaborated with HandBrake developers to optimize thread management for high-core-count processors. HandBrake, a free video transcoding tool, previously had a 64-thread limit that caused performance to drop by up to 60 percent. The release of HandBrake 1.11.0 in spring 2026 addresses these issues, significantly benefiting the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series, which includes 32 and 64-core models. Testing shows the 96-core Ryzen Threadripper Pro 9995WX achieved a performance increase of up to 181 percent. The 64-core Ryzen Threadripper 7980X saw even greater gains, with performance rising by up to 215 percent compared to previous results. These updates ensure full utilization of high-end CPU resources during video and DVD transcoding tasks.
