AMD Confirms Zen 6 Mustang Peak Threadripper
AMD's next-gen Mustang Peak Threadripper CPUs will feature Zen 6 architecture, the new TR6 socket, and PCIe 6.0 support for workstations.
AMD has confirmed that its upcoming Threadripper generation, codenamed Mustang Peak, will utilize the Zen 6 architecture. These processors are set to feature cores manufactured on TSMC's 2nm process and will introduce the new TR6 socket, succeeding the current TR5 platform. The TR6 socket is based on the SP8 workstation socket, which includes 5,572 LGA contact surfaces and supports eight memory channels. This differs from the Zen 6 Epyc Venice family, which utilizes the SP7 socket with 7,536 contacts. Technical specifications for the SP8-based platform include a Dual-IO-Die design and the integration of PCIe 6.0 as a standard. Designed for high-performance workstation tasks, Mustang Peak represents a significant architectural shift for AMD's high-end desktop lineup.
