AMD FSR 4.1 Coming to RDNA 3 and RDNA 2 GPUs
AMD executives confirm FSR 4.1 upscaling will expand to Radeon RX 7000 and RX 6000 series hardware following its RDNA 4 debut.
During Computex 2026, AMD's Andrej Zdravkovic and Terry Makedon detailed the rollout of FSR 4.1. Currently exclusive to RDNA 4-based Radeon RX 9000 series cards, the upscaling algorithm is scheduled for RDNA 3-based Radeon RX 7000 GPUs in July 2026. While RDNA 4 utilizes FP8 data types, RDNA 3 lacks FP8 support and relies on INT8. Consequently, AMD is developing a specific model for RDNA 3 by converting the algorithm to 8-bit integer data, promising quality parity with RDNA 4. Support for RDNA 2 hardware, which lacks dedicated AI accelerators and must utilize Stream Processors, is planned for 2027. Development involves training on Instinct MI accelerators, refinement via Radeon Pro GPUs, and final polishing through the ROCm platform. Before shipping, AMD tests the FSR model across hundreds of thousands of PC configurations using standard Radeon GPUs. More details are expected in July 2026.
