AMD Acquires AI Startup MEXT for Server Memory
AMD is acquiring AI startup MEXT to optimize server memory by using AI-driven data movement between DRAM and cost-effective NAND flash.
AMD has announced the acquisition of MEXT, an AI startup specializing in efficient server memory management. MEXT technology utilizes software to identify inactive data and move it from DRAM to less expensive, though slower, NAND flash storage. By employing AI prediction to transition data back to DRAM when needed, the technology aims to significantly reduce DRAM requirements. This approach can virtually double or quadruple the available memory capacity within data centers. AMD plans to integrate MEXT's technology across its data center portfolio to leverage these efficiencies. By optimizing how data is stored and accessed, the solution addresses the cost and performance balance between high-speed DRAM and high-capacity NAND flash.
