Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon Reality Elite SoC

Qualcomm's new Snapdragon Reality Elite SoC boosts CPU and GPU performance for MR and VR headsets, debuting in Xreal Project Aura.

Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon Reality Elite, its new flagship SoC for mixed and virtual reality headsets, succeeding the 2024 Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2. The platform will debut in the Xreal Project Aura running Android XR. Compared to its predecessor, the chip delivers 30 percent higher CPU performance and 60 percent more GPU performance at equal power levels, while reducing CPU power consumption by 45 percent and GPU consumption by 64 percent at equal performance. The NPU provides 48 TOPS (INT8), marking a 160 percent performance increase and up to 84 percent lower power consumption. Additional specs include 30 percent higher memory throughput and support for 4.4K resolution at 90 FPS per eye. These efficiencies enable 20 percent longer battery life and 12-degree Celsius lower surface temperatures. Alongside the chip, Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon Scalable Turnkey AI-Ready Toolkit (START) program at the Augmented World Expo, partnering with Thundercomm, Applied Materials, Jorjin, and Pegatron to provide hardware modules and software stacks for XR scaling.
