AMD Developing Custom MI450 AI Accelerator for Meta
AMD is building a custom Instinct MI450-based AI accelerator for Meta featuring 144GB of HBM4 memory optimized for recommendation systems.
AMD is developing a specialized AI accelerator for Meta based on the Instinct MI450 design. This custom hardware features 144GB of HBM4 memory across six 8-Hi packages, a significant reduction from the standard Instinct MI455X which offers 432GB of HBM4 and 19.6 TB/s of bandwidth. Optimized specifically for recommendation systems, the Meta-exclusive chip will provide less compute performance and a smaller package size compared to standard MI450-series accelerators. The project is part of a broader five-year agreement between the two companies, where AMD will supply Meta with 6 GW of Instinct AI accelerators, including these custom MI450-based designs tailored to Meta's specific infrastructure needs.
