Modder Cools RTX 4060 With 2.5kg Aluminum Block

A modder replaced an NVIDIA RTX 4060's stock cooler with a massive 2.5 kg aluminum block for silent, fanless operation.

A modder has converted an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 into a silent, passively cooled unit by replacing its stock cooler with a 2.5 kg aluminum block. As reported by VGTimes and FanlessTech, the project uses a custom copper base for the GPU chip and small heatsinks for the 8 GB of GDDR6 memory and power supply. The massive block, which is larger than the Mini-ITX system used, features widely spaced fins to facilitate natural convection in a vertical open-air setup. Despite the card's 115 W TGP, the system remained stable during a 120 W FurMark test, reaching 87 °C without throttling. In gaming scenarios, where the 128-bit card typically draws 110 W, hotspot temperatures stayed just over 70 °C. Due to the block's extreme weight, additional support was required to protect the PCIe slot and circuit board from stress.
