Modders Unlock Blackwell GDDR7 Temperature Monitoring

Modders have enabled detailed temperature monitoring for NVIDIA Blackwell GDDR7 memory modules by accessing undocumented registers.

A collaborative effort by modders including Paulo Gomes, Unwinder, asder00, Martin Malík, and olealgoritme has enabled individual memory IC temperature monitoring on NVIDIA Blackwell graphics cards. The project involved accessing undocumented memory registers to update the Hotspot.dll plug-in for MSI Afterburner. The updated tool provides data for six Blackwell die temperature channels, hotspot metrics, and GDDR7 thermal sensor values. The GeForce RTX 5090, utilizing 16 GDDR7 modules, reports eight measurement points representing paired modules, with HWINFO64 recording a maximum temperature of 64°C. Meanwhile, a GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB reached 68°C during stress testing. Although physical sensor locations remain unknown, the mod bypasses NVIDIA's lack of official documentation and public monitoring interface access for these specific registers.
