Kioxia Unveils UFS 5.0 Flash for AI Devices

Kioxia Corporation has announced new UFS 5.0 embedded flash memory solutions designed for AI-enabled mobile and edge devices. Built on the JEDEC UFS 5.0 standard, these devices leverage MIPI M-PHY v6.0 and UniPro v3.0 with HS-Gear6 operation, supporting theoretical interface speeds of up to 46.6 Gb/s per lane. The solutions combine an in-house controller with BiCS FLASH generation 8 3D flash memory to deliver sequential read performance of up to 10 GB/s and sequential write speeds of 9.0 GB/s. Commercial samples are currently available in 1 TB and 512 GB capacities, housed in a compact 7.5 x 13 mm BGA package that is smaller than previous-generation products. Kioxia will demonstrate the technology at FMS: the Future of Memory and Storage, with mass production expected to begin by the end of 2026.
