Apacer CEO Warns of 2027 DRAM Supply Shortage

Apacer CEO C.K. Chang predicts DRAM supply to independent module makers will plummet by 2027 as shortages persist through mid-year.

During the 1H 2026 investor conference on July 24, Apacer CEO C.K. Chang warned that DRAM supply from major manufacturers to independent module makers could drop to 30% of 2026 levels by 2027. Chang estimates that 60% of DRAM capacity is currently focused on server applications, contributing to shortages expected to last until mid-2027. Consequently, Apacer increased its inventory to NT$12.4 billion ($383.2 million USD) by June 2026, up from NT$8.38 billion in March, and is securing a NT$4 billion syndicated loan. Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron control over 90% of the DRAM market, with Apacer sourcing wafers from firms like Samsung and SK Hynix. For Q3 2026, Chang expects contract prices to rise 30% for DRAM and over 20% for NAND flash. The market also sees activity from Chinese firms CXMT and YMTC.
