CXMT DDR5 Memory Prices Rival Industry Leaders

Chinese chipmaker CXMT enters the high-end DRAM market with 64GB DDR5-5600 RDIMMs priced similarly to Samsung and SK hynix offerings.

Chinese DRAM manufacturer ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has launched 64GB DDR5-5600 RDIMMs, with listings on JD.com reaching 18,999 CNY. This pricing slightly exceeds the 18,595 CNY cost for equivalent modules using Samsung or SK hynix memory, the industry's "Big Three" alongside Micron. In the United States, a Samsung 64GB DDR5-5600 RDIMM retails for $2,425 on Amazon. Despite competitive pricing, CXMT utilizes outdated fabrication technology compared to the latest manufacturing processes used by global leaders. Consequently, CXMT DRAM ICs exhibit higher power consumption, lower performance potential, and mediocre overclockability. To support its market position, the Chinese government provides subsidies to both CXMT and Yangtze Memory Technologies as they compete against established international rivals.
