NVIDIA Eyes $250B Guarantee for OpenAI Data Center

NVIDIA is in talks to provide a $250 billion lease guarantee for OpenAI's proposed 10-gigawatt data center project in southern Ohio.

NVIDIA is negotiating a $250 billion lease guarantee to support OpenAI's massive data center project in Piketon, Ohio. The proposed 10-gigawatt campus, located at a former uranium-enrichment facility, carries an estimated total cost exceeding $500 billion. According to The Wall Street Journal, NVIDIA is also discussing a separate $350 billion financing package for OpenAI chip purchases. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is overseeing power allocation for the federal site, where Anthropic, Google, and Microsoft are also seeking energy access. While OpenAI maintains an existing $100 billion partnership for AI superintelligence, this Ohio initiative could leverage infrastructure from SoftBank subsidiary SB Energy. Final contracts for the NVIDIA guarantee have not been finalized as competition for regional power intensifies.
