Microsoft to Optimize Windows 11 for 8GB RAM
Microsoft President Pavan Davuluri confirms plans to improve Windows 11 memory efficiency for 8GB RAM systems through component tuning.
Microsoft is working to enhance Windows 11 performance on devices with 8GB of RAM, according to Pavan Davuluri, President of Windows and Devices. The initiative focuses on tuning WinUI 3 to lower RAM consumption for tailored applications while increasing efficiency for Chromium and WebView2 components. This move comes as internal testing showed a Dell XPS 13 with 8GB of RAM utilizing 70 percent of its memory with no programs open. Microsoft acknowledges that the rise of AI features has significantly impacted memory configurations across the computing landscape. With a memory shortage projected to persist until 2028, the company aims to optimize the operating system's footprint to better support existing hardware configurations.
