Samsung Expands Texas Foundry with Second Plant

Samsung Electronics will build a second factory in Taylor, Texas, as it improves 2nm yields and targets 2030 for mass production.

Samsung Electronics is expanding its U.S. manufacturing footprint with a second factory in Taylor, Texas, where construction is slated to begin at the end of 2026. This follows the first Taylor facility, which is scheduled to start production in late 2026. While Samsung's foundry division currently faces financial losses, the company is improving yields for its 2nm process, with second-generation production set for the latter half of 2026. Currently, the Exynos 2600 is the only chip utilizing this 2nm node. Samsung is also leveraging its 4nm process for the Groq LPU and HBM4 base dies, while continuing to produce older Nvidia GPUs on an 8nm node. Looking ahead, Samsung targets 2030 for mass production at the second Texas plant and is considering a new facility for 1.4nm chips, which may debut in South Korean 2nm lines by 2029 at the earliest.
