MSI Afterburner Beta Adds GPU V/F Curve Heat Map

MSI Afterburner developer Unwinder is adding a V/F curve heat map to visualize NVIDIA GPU Boost behavior in the next beta release.

The upcoming MSI Afterburner beta introduces a voltage/frequency curve editor heat map, accessible by pressing the M key. Developed by Unwinder, this feature uses yellow gradients to indicate the most frequently hit V/F points, allowing users to observe the NVIDIA GPU Boost algorithm in action. While older architectures like the Ada Lovelace-based GeForce RTX 4090 jumped between target points, the Blackwell-based GeForce RTX 5090 features a more gradual curve. NVIDIA improved dynamic voltage frequency scaling in Blackwell, with targets switching up to 1,000 times faster than previous generations. This tool provides insights similar to custom software used in TechPowerUp reviews, specifically recording the boosting profiles of the RTX 5090 and RTX 4090 to highlight architectural differences in frequency management.
