NVIDIA has released driver update 615.56, which effectively blocks core power control functionality in the open-source overclocking tool mVolt+. The utility previously allowed users to unlock power limit controls on the new GeForce RTX 5000-series GPUs.
Reports from Uniko's Hardware and Overclock.net forum members indicate that attempting to input extra current now results in a black screen. Before this update, the flagship RTX 5090 could draw up to 125 W of additional power using the mVolt+ software.
While NVIDIA has restricted these specific overrides, a beta build of Hydra 2.3 is reportedly still able to access core power controls on these GPUs. This ongoing development suggests a cat-and-mouse game between official drivers and third-party tools.
