Valve Sunsets Steam Deck LCD Replacement Parts
iFixit confirms Valve is sunsetting OEM replacement batteries for the Steam Deck LCD as the company shifts focus to the newer OLED model.
Valve is reportedly sunsetting OEM replacement parts for the original Steam Deck LCD, which launched in 2022. According to a support email from partner iFixit, the company will no longer stock OEM batteries for the LCD model, which are currently listed as out of stock. An iFixit representative on Reddit confirmed that Valve is phasing out these components following the recent discontinuation of the LCD hardware in favor of OLED versions. While the OLED model remains unaffected, iFixit is currently searching for alternative battery sources. Third-party batteries are still available through retailers like Amazon, but the move has led some Reddit users to accuse Valve of forced obsolescence.
