Enterprise Flash Storage Costs Surge in August

VDURA reports enterprise SSD prices have risen to $22,600 for 30TB units, making flash 18.6 times more expensive than hard drives.

VDURA's August Flash Volatility Index reveals a sharp rise in enterprise storage costs, with a 30TB TLC SSD now priced at $22,600. This represents a massive increase from the $3,460 recorded a year prior, making flash 18.6 times more expensive than HDDs.

NAND contract prices surged 70-75% in Q2 2026 following an 80% spike for enterprise SSDs in Q1. Meanwhile, HDD output from Seagate and Western Digital is sold out through 2027, with analysts reporting spot market premiums reaching up to 40% this August.

The price gap significantly impacts AI infrastructure, as a 25PB all-flash build costs $51.60 million compared to $12.86 million for a hybrid system. VDURA's mixed-fleet model uses 5.78PB of flash and 22.68PB of disk to optimize these escalating expenses.
