Microsoft recently stated that 16GB of RAM is a practical starting point for Windows 11, while 32GB is a future-proof configuration for gaming enthusiasts. This comes as the company released 8GB base models for the Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 13.
Reports from Windows Latest indicate Microsoft removed a November 2025 blog post titled "How to optimize your gaming PC setup." That post, which called 32GB ideal for hardcore gamers, now redirects to the Learning Center Homepage after references were deleted.
While Windows 11 requires 4GB of RAM and the original Task Manager was only 80KB, Microsoft promised to optimize the OS footprint by 2026. However, the 8GB base versions of the Surface Laptop for Business continue to ship despite new 16GB advice.
