Nvidia Kyber Server Rack Delayed to 2028
Nvidia's 78-layer Kyber midplane rack, designed to double GPU density, is reportedly delayed until 2028 for the Feynman generation.
Nvidia has reportedly delayed its Kyber server rack architecture from 2027 to 2028, with the design now expected to debut alongside the Feynman generation. Replacing the current Oberon architecture, Kyber features a 78-layer midplane PCB that utilizes a vertical insertion method for trays from both sides. This design connects compute blades containing GPUs and CPUs to switches using trays that are half the height of previous iterations, effectively doubling the number of GPUs per rack. While the Kyber rack was previously on the March 2026 roadmap alongside the Rubin Ultra 4-tile chip, Nvidia is currently testing Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) technology in Oberon racks. CEO Jensen Huang highlighted optical connections as a scale-up option at GTC 2026, and the company is using its 'Polyphe' prototype to test optical scale-up capabilities. These advancements support the NVL576 configuration, which enables 576 GPUs to connect within a single domain.
