Samsung SSD 990 DRAMless Gen 4 Drive Details Leak
Samsung is developing the SSD 990, a value-end DRAMless M.2 NVMe Gen 4 drive featuring sequential read speeds up to 7,250 MB/s.
Samsung is expanding its storage lineup with the SSD 990, a value-end client M.2 NVMe drive recently spotted on the company's Canadian website. This DRAMless SSD utilizes an in-house Samsung controller and a PCIe Gen 4 x4 interface. Performance specifications for the 2 TB variant include sequential read speeds of up to 7,250 MB/s and write speeds of 6,450 MB/s, while the 1 TB model offers 7,150 MB/s reads and identical write speeds. Endurance is rated at 400 TBW for the 1 TB model and 800 TBW for the 2 TB version, which is lower than the 990 PRO series. This drive joins other recent releases like the 990 EVO Plus, a DRAMless performance-segment SSD supporting PCIe Gen 4 x4 or Gen 5 x2 interfaces.
